Treasure Bay Expects Tremendous Opportunity

Treasure Bay is undergoing a $30 million expansion and improvement project.

The casino resort’s makeover includes the entire hotel. Hundreds of construction workers are busy upgrading rooms, restaurants and gaming space.

“We completely renovated the entire tower. Took it all the way down to the concrete and started all over with hotel rooms. So, really high finish, high quality hotel rooms now,” said general manager Susan Varnes.

The finished project will include 250 hotel rooms. The entrance features plenty of stone; the outside walls a new color scheme.

“Cut off the edge, so it’s an infinity pool. So, that’s the work you see going on there,” said Varnes, while taking visitors for a tour of the pool deck, “And up here, we’re building a bar with a pizza oven in it. And this is where the Brazilian stone gets laid.”

“This is the buffet and as you can see it will be overlooking the pool. And the buffet line runs over there. And then we have a private meeting room over here for the buffet,” said the proud general manager.

Once the second floor gaming space is finished, Treasure Bay will have 800 slots, 22 table games, and something of a risk: large windows.

“You’ll be able to see the Gulf, all the way across, which is a little unconventional for a casino. But we’re excited about it,” she said.

Treasure Bay’s vision for its casino resort isn’t limited to the north side of Highway 90. The company’s long range plans also call for a significant development south of Highway 90.

“It’s a great spot for a marina and condo project at some point in the future,” said Varnes.

She says future plans and current construction should put Treasure Bay in perfect position.

“Slightly different than the rest of our competitors. And because of our location, where there’s not a lot of competition around, and you have all these condos coming up, we have a tremendous opportunity,” said Varnes.

Susan Varnes says she’s hoping the new development will be open by late June. She says it will “absolutely” be open this summer.

Biloxi casino plans $100M expansion

More great news for Biloxi Casinos!

Biloxi casino plans $100M expansion BILOXI, Miss. (AP) – IP Casino Hotel Spa has announced a $100 million land acquisition and expansion in Biloxi.

This week, IP President and General Manager Jon Lucas told members of the Mississippi Gaming Commission that some the expansion is underway. He said some work will be done behind construction walls so there is minimal disruption to guests.

Lucas said Friday the largest project involves closing the movie theater, probably after July, to make room on the second floor for expanded convention and meeting space.

“That will be the beginning of land-based gaming for us,” said Lucas.

About 900 slots will be located off the casino barge. Fourteen table games will be added and the poker room will move from the third floor.

“We’re working on a master plan that will eventually get us to one level gaming,” Lucas said.

He said the expansion faces the Back Bay and they will take advantage of the views in their new Asian restaurant, Tien, with table-side cooking overlooking the bay.

IP is also remodeling 78 suites and Club IP and expanding its entertainment with a production at Club IP.

Recent land acquisition also allow for expanded parking.

“We have more plans,” Lucas said, and when IP is finished, “we basically will have redone the whole property.”
