Casinos in Diberville?
On D’Iberville’s waterfront
D’IBERVILLE - City Council members and residents are working to expand the waterfront zone on the east and west sides of Interstate 110 in anticipation of gaming development.
During today’s meeting, the City Council accepted a petition from 42 residents along the northside of Race Track Road requesting that their properties be rezoned from residential to waterfront. The properties are included or adjacent to the 800 feet of the shoreline, making the area eligible for casino development.
Tom Moore, a Race Track Road resident, said the petition represents roughly 90 percent of Race Track Road property owners.
Race Track Road residents Judy and Mike Eick, who signed the petition, said their first instinct was to rebuild but obstacles including high insurance costs made them change their minds.
No comments in opposition were made during the presentation.
The petition will be forwarded to the Planing Commission as a rezoning application and could go before council as soon as August or September, said Planning Director Deonne Olier.
