JACKSON, Miss. — Thousands of casino employees on the Gulf Coast are losing insurance benefits and salaries as the companies end post-Hurricane Katrina assistance to concentrate on rebuilding gambling houses hammered by the hurricane.

Tunica Co. to host 2006 Southern Gaming Summit

TUNICA, Miss. Tunica County will host the 2006 Southern Gaming Summit.
The event will be held at the Tunica Arena and Expo Center on May fourth and fifth. The event has been moved from the coast because of hurricane damage to the Gulf Coast Coliseum and Convention Center in Biloxi.

Las Vegas-based Harrah’s Entertainment laid off most of its 9,400-person Gulf Coast casino work force this week, three months after devastating hurricanes halted operations at five of the company’s casinos in Louisiana and Mississippi.
