Operator of Casinos Offers to Invest $400 Million in Biloxi’s Waterfront

Landry’s Restaurants, owner and operator of Golden Nugget hotel-casinos in Nevada, has proposed to develop the waterfront in Biloxi, Mississippi. If approved, the company plans to invest as much as $400 million in the development of land on the north side of U.S. 90. Golden Nugget’s proposed casino complex is expected to provide approximately 3,000 job vacancies.

According to company officials, the Biloxi project would offer casino visitors numerous attractive features, such as thrill rides, an aquarium restaurant and dancing fountains. The casino resort would also have 60,000 square feet of gambling space, a 750 spaces parking garage and 600 hotel rooms. Landry’s has already constructed similar resorts in several locations across Texas.

However, it is up to Isle of Capri Casinos to decide whether or not Landry’s’ project will ultimately materialize. Isle of Capri’s property, which is located on the south side of the highway, is entitled to a right of first refusal. Bill Kilduff, Isle casino’s general manger, was reported as saying that the company’s board of directors would first have to examine all investment possibilities, before coming to any conclusions.
