Onnam Entertainment chooses Yates to build Havana Casino
BILOXI – Onnam Entertainment on Wednesday announced that it has selected W.G. Yates & Sons Construction Co. to build the $235 million Havana Casino Resort it plans to put on the tip of the Biloxi Peninsula.
The casino project has received gaming site and development plan approval from the Mississippi Gaming Commission, but before construction can begin it needs master plan approval from the city of Biloxi and a third approval from the Gaming Commission. Developers will have to show proof of financing to the commission.
“We are honored to have been selected as the contractor of choice for the Havana project and very excited about partnering with the architect, Leo A. Daly, in making this project a success for our client and a success for Biloxi,” said William Yates, president of the construction company.
Francis X. Dumont of Leo A. Daly is the lead architect for the project. Dumont is known for his opulent designs, like the work he did for the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City.
Joseph Manno, president of the proposed casino, said it will “make the glory days of old Havana a reality in Biloxi.”
Plans call for a 20-story hotel tower, a 60,620-square-foot casino on pilings, and a 1,500 seat theater. It will also have a recording studio and a wedding chapel.
